owered engines over to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) has a positive impact on air quality and reduces vehicle emissions. Much of Santa Cruz Metro’s bus fleet now operates on CNG as do a number of the fleet vehicles in operation at UCSC. Large fleets who rely on a steady supply of fuel typically operate their own on-site CNG fueling stations.

A public CNG fueling center is available at the PG&E Service Center at 615 7th Ave., Santa Cruz.
Biodiesel
Biodiesel is a clean-burning fuel made from renewable resources such as recycled cooking oil, soybean oil, and animal fats. Most existing diesel engines can use biodiesel without being modified typically in blends of up to 5 percent or 20 percent biodiesel. Biodiesel is good for the environment and helps reduce dependence on oil.

AGRON BIO ENERGY
B-20, a fuel that is 20 percent biodiesel, is manufactured from beef tallow by Agron Bio Energy (formerly North Star Biofuels), at 860 W. Beach in Watsonville. Several school districts, local governments and business use this fuel in some or all of their fleet vehicles.
