Slipout Repairs in Brookdale/Hwy 9 Ongoing until Nov 13

Last updated November 13, 2017 at 7:00 am | Posted October 26, 2017 at 4:11 pm

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY– Caltrans will modify the traffic control a slip out repair project along Hwy. 9 between Western Avenue and Pike Road in Brookdale during the overnight hours of 10 pm until 6 am on Tuesday, Oct. 31 for Halloween by having one-way reversing traffic control from 10 pm on Tuesday, Oct. 31 through 6 am on Wednesday, Nov. 1, but will continue with full overnight closures for the project duration, Caltrans officials have announced.

The purpose of this construction project is to repair the slip out from this winter by constructing a soldier pile wall and side hill viaduct. The first phase of the project will be constructing a soldier pile wall during these night closures. The second phase, viaduct construction, is expected to take place directly after utility relocation occurs.

Electronic message boards and signs will be posted to alert motorists of this roadwork. The overnight closures will take place Sunday nights through Thursday nights (Friday morning); no Friday or Saturday overnight closures, and are scheduled to conclude on Monday, Nov. 13 at 6 am.

The contractor for this $4,000,000 construction project, which is scheduled to complete in the summer of 2018, is Gordon Ball Construction of Concord.

DETOUR: Due to significant damage on county routes, the official detour is to use Bear Creek Road/Summit Road, Hwy 17 and Mount Hermon Road.

NOTE: Bus schedules and routes may be affected during this 15-night closure. Residents in the San Lorenzo Valley will be receiving mailers with more information regarding this project.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway construction zones.

For more information on this project and for traffic updates on other Caltrans projects in Santa Cruz County, residents can call the District 5 toll free number at 1-831-423-0396 or can visit our website at: http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist05/paffairs/release.htm#scr
