Tree & vegetation removal continues on Hwy 17 through 5/24

Single lane ahead warning message

5/16/19 UPDATE– The tree/vegetation removal on northbound Hwy. 17 previously scheduled for 5/13-5/17 has been re-scheduled due to rain. The No. 2 (right) lane of both south and northbound Highway 17 will be closed in various locations between Sims Road in Santa Cruz and just south of the Glenwood Cut Off in Scotts Valley beginning Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24 so that Caltrans may perform vegetation control and remove dead or hazardous trees for fire prevention.

Details are as follows:

  • Monday, May 20: Closure of southbound #2 (right) lane from W. Vine Hill Rd. (North) to Crescent Dr. (North) from 9 am to 2:30 pm
  • Tuesday, May 21: Closure of southbound #2 (right) lane from Scotts Valley Overcrossing to Sims Rd. from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm
  • Wednesday, May 22: Closure of the southbound #2 (right) lane from Scotts Valley Overcrossing to Sims Rd. from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm
  • Thursday, May 23: Closure of the northbound #2 (right) lane from Santa’s Village Rd. to W. Vine Hill Rd. (South) from 10 am to 3 pm;
  • Friday, May 24: Closure of the northbound #2 (right) lane Sims Rd. to Scotts Valley Overcrossing from 10 am to 3 pm

NOTE: If the weather cooperates with no rain, there may be two additional closures:

  • Friday, May 17: Closure of the northbound #2 (right) lane from Sims Rd. to Scotts Valley Overcrossing from 10 am to 2:30 pm
  • Saturday, May 18: Closure of the northbound off-ramp at Pasatiempo Dr. from 7 am to 2 pm.
    Motorists can expect delays of 10-15 minutes.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY– The No. 2 (right) lane of northbound Highway 17 will be closed in various locations between Sims Road in Santa Cruz and just south of the Glenwood Cut Off in Scotts Valley beginning Monday, May 13 through Friday, May 17 from 10 am until 2:30 pm so that Caltrans may perform vegetation control and remove dead or hazardous trees for fire prevention.  Motorists can expect delays not to exceed 15 minutes.

This work will be performed by the Caltrans Santa Cruz North Maintenance and the Santa Cruz Tree Crews and is necessary to ensure the safety of everyone. Roadwork is expected to complete on Friday, May 17.
